News in this Issue:

-          Breaking News: Cambodian Swimmers Chamraen Youri & HEMTHON Vitiny will swim only 1 distance 50m Freestyle at World Championship! HEMTHON Ponloeu enrolment for 2 swimming distances 50m Freestyle & 50m Backstroke remains unchanged.
-          World Swim Championship 2012 Schedule

As we just were informed by General Secretary of Khmer Amateur Swimming Federation Mr. HEM Thon who is also Director of Administration Department of Cambodian National Olympic Committee – our club’s athlete Chamraen Youri as well as female swimmer HEMTHON Vitiny will swim only one distance in upcoming World Championship instead of 2 distances, previously announced (see article from Phnom Penh Post Newspaper published earlier). As we also, knew from Phnom Penh Post Newspaper before – Chamraen Youri was enrolled to swim 50m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly distances, HEMTHON Vitiny 50m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke. HEMTHON Ponloeu - 50m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke too, same as his niece. We were surprised, for selection of 2nd distance for 2 male swimmers. Because, Ponloeu is best breaststroker in Cambodia for Long Course 50m pool, and logically speaking, he should better swim 50m Breaststroke distance, not Backstroke. Especially, as he succesfully swam 50m Breaststroke already, at WC LC in China in 2011. In contrary, Chamraen is number 1-2 swimmer  in Cambodia for Backstroke, he always swim backstroke in relays, for National Team or for his Club, and won almost all races with backstroke distances in LC Meets in Cambodia since Sep. 2009. In SEA Games 2011 he set up new National Record for 50m Backstroke LC. Butterfly is not his favorite style, even he won several medals on some butterfly distances in some competitions in Cambodia and in Indonesia. For what reason, Chamraen was enrolled, on 50 Fly and for what reason, Ponloeu was enrolled on 50 Back? Also, what Personal Best Times or NT-No Time might be, were put for Chamraen Youri and Vitiny? We do not know, answers for these questions, and nobody consulted with us, from Khmer Amateur Swimming Federation. As result of not right selected, from our point of view, 2nd distance for swimmers – Chamraen and Vitiny were not approved by FINA, according what said Mr. HEM Thon. And now, they go to Turkey to swim just 1 distance. This is really, very pity, as because there is no any standard Short Course 25m swimming pool exists in Cambodia, just few swimmers from the kingdom can participate in SC meets abroad: last such SC competition was WC in UAE in 2010 where Chamraen and Vitiny participated. Our club, purposely sent Chamraen to SC meet in Thailand, in 2010, so he could update his Personal Best Times, for Short Course. He swam there 9 distances and won total 10 awards in that 2 days international clubs meet. We do hope, that sooner or later, it will be created proper system, of selection proper distances for participation of top Cambodian swimmers in international and local competitions. Our club and our management will be always happy to assist Khmer Amateur Swimming Federation and Cambodian NOC in it.
