LAST DATE OF RECORDS DATABASE MONITORING: 01.01.2015. AFTER THIS DATE WE SHALL STOP UPDATE THE CURRENT DATABASE, FOR ALL FUTURE CHANGES IN RECORDS DATABASE PLEASE REFER TO OTHER SOURCES.

Important Notes:
·         The current database of Cambodian National Men’s Records for Long Course 50 m standard swimming pool was created with assistance of experts from FINA, International Swimming Statistics Association & Royal Sport Club “Nautilus” from Cambodia. Right now, in the time of creating this database in 2012, it is only one credible database known, made with strict accordance with FINA rules. The current data is not, recognized by Hem family local Cambodian swimming federation, which hold official name - Khmer Amateur Swimming Federation. Or, better to say, that we are not aware, if, the current data, is recognized, by Hem family local federation, or not, as they do not provide for us, any information and avoid, any contact since long time ago.
·         During Khmer Rouge period and civil war in Cambodia the data of some results of Cambodian Swimming Records was lost and could not be verified during preparation of the current National Record’s Times Database. If anybody can provide info to correct any currently listed record, it can be submitted at email: cambodiaswimming@gmail.com with the following attached documents for verification: team manager file (or any credible written info) from competition what was held under FINA rules and must have athlete’s name, time result, date, venue and name of the meet; any document to certify athlete’s nationality on the day of competition (accept till only the date of 01.01.2015, as after this date we decided to stop update the current database)
·         All local meets in Cambodia since 1980 were hold not with accordance with FINA rules, mainly because only 1 timekeeper per several lanes or per 1 lane was provided by swim meet’s organizers, instead of the must be electronic timing and/or 3 timekeepers per 1 lane as FINA rules states: therefore all times shown by athletes in local swim meets in 1980- Aug 2012 cannot be submitted for the country National Swimming Records according FINA standards. All kind of other might be statistics, with results from local meets in Cambodia as the Country’s National Records or/and from results from other competitions without any written verification for being in accordance with FINA rules, is non-accurate and against FINA rules. Some records made in past, could not be fully verified, in particular - for 200m IM and 400m IM distances, probably made during SEA Games 1999 in Brunei, so they are not included in this database.

    1. All record times here come inside this database only if they are done with accordance of FINA rules and have verification team manager file from competition or another credible document. This is why, this database is the most accurate, for Cambodian National Swim Records. John, (I think, that correct writing of your name is John, not Jonh, yes or no? :) ), so, the Medley Records 200m and 400m Hem Kiry probably made on SEA Games in Brunei. We put it here, as both records were listed in database of International Swimming Statistics Federation, but there was absent, info about venue and full date data. We still search for exact data, for verification.
Only two relay records in database because we do not have credible info for Relay 200x4 Free yet. If you know, pls share it with us.

  3. Madlen, thank you for your comment. There are some difficulties, for updating and verifying records LC database for women: some record times shown by Cambodian female swimmers based abroad with dual citizenship, so we need to verify, their Nationality on the day of record time shown, some records made long time ago we need to verify, but it's very difficult, to find database. If smbd can help with it, will be very appreciated!

  4. Bon Jour!
Would like to know, why you haven't made records database for women? What was the reason, that you have stopped to update records data since 2015? How do you think, records database in wiki is trustful one or not so? And, do you know by chance, why in recent days, there are strange things going on in wike database - everyday database changes, looks like somebody purposely changing data for the wrong one, can you look into this matter and inform about what do you think and what data is right one? Som Okun. Merci.

    1. Hi, you raised many questions in your comment. Thank you for your interest, in Cambodian sport, in particular, in swimming sport. I guess, that you might be, a Khmer/French, living in France, yes or no? :) For other readers who are not Khmer - Som Okun - this is not a name, but it means Thanks a Lot, in Khmer language. For our dear readers who are 007 and 008 agents - wiki - this is short name of wikipedia, not wikileaks. :)
Answer to your question number one, about database for women's records: many reasons, why I haven't made it. One of them, that I occupied with many things every day and night, in particular - important governmental job, so simply no free time available. Other reason - very difficult, to obtain any credible data, as officials from Khmer Amateur Swimming Federation proudly keep all data what they have in secret and are not interested in sharing it with public, and even do not know or pretend that they do not know, about what times are eligible for the National Records according FINA rules and regulations, and the data what they provide sometimes for mass-media just looks like a joke from comedy club, as example, you can read, what info they put at an English local newspaper Phnom Penh Post some time ago:

  5. Aquatics Cambodia manages just by one person, and as you may understand, this person who is me, prefer to publish materials based on info what he already has, and right now, just around 2 or 3 % of information what is already available, is published so far. To publish database of Women's Records, I need, to search Internet, to write letters to other National Swimming Federations, to search archive's data in libraries - this is a lot of job, actually, what I did, when I created database for Men's National Records, and you know, nobody from local swimming body and local NOC even said to me - thank you for it. Nobody helped financially - al this volunteer job I do, using my time and my own money. Just some expatriates from abroad helped me with some data so far.
Your 2nd question - why have I stopped, to update data since Jan 2015? Same reasons as I said earlier, plus some reasons more, and I plan soon write an article about it, where I will tell more information about this subject.

  6. About that data in Wikipedia and "Comedy Club Show" with data changing there: you should be very careful, with all data what you see in Wikipedia, because it is written mainly not by professionals and can be wrong. Concerning particularly Cambodian National Records data there - when somebody created that page and published it few years ago, there were just several records written and a half of them were outdated or wrong, so when I noticed it, I edited that data and put many new records, what were absent, do you know? The person who made that page, accepted all of my changes there that time. After, he added more and more new records, made in 2015-2017, but recently, some time ago, he put not accurate and not full info for records, what is totally wrong and against FINA rules. Because, how can be, a National Record, just with name of swimmer, the time of record and the year of record? Must be written, name of competition. Must be written, full date of competition. And provided reference file for verification, if possible. And some info more. What more - the creator and editor of that page at Wikipedia, just started to change names of the swimmers, delete a part of full name, change name - this is what? Should be put exact full name as it is written at official results file.

  7. This is actually - long story, so I think, I need to find some free time and write an article about it, where I will tell, how local officials were changing names of some swimmers not just in their entries, for World Championships and SEA Games, but even, managed to do change swimmers names in their passports, yes, it is not a joke, but sad truth. Or another interesting story - how an US swimmer who not speak at all in Khmer language, has got Khmer passport just before FINA World Championship 2013 and went directly from USA to represent Cambodia at this event, without any participation in selective local meets. Cambodian swimmer who won all races in Cambodian Championship 2013, what was selective meet for World Championship 2013, did not go, for World Championship, he was not selected, to participate, because Cambodia has got only 3 places with white card, from FINA, so two places were already automatically given to the son of the General Secretary of Khmer amateur swimming Federation, and to his granddaughter, so one remaining place was given to that US swimmer who just recently got his Cambodian citizenship despite the fact, that should be fair selection of the swimmers in selective local competitions such as National Championship but the swimmer who won Gold Medals in all races he swam at Cambodian National Championship 2013 just stayed at home without any explanations from local swimming body officials - this is how things goes on, in Cambodian swimming sport - the sad truth. So, some results for records in Wikipedia can be trusted, some - definitely not. What I recommend - first of all, to know, what is definition, of National record in swimming? The second thing - be very careful, with Cambodian sources, even with data from official competitions published in reputable newspapers. Because, just one example - I witnessed all local swimming competitions from September 2009 to March 2014: no one, was made with accordance with FINA rules, no electronic timing was used and many other irregularities, so when somebody in Wikipedia put as proof for record info from a website from local company-sponsor, without any data except just the name of swimmer and time, without name of competition, venue of competition etc. - how can it put as a National Record time? Another thing - swimmer with US and Cambodian citizenship who permanently live in USA swims in US local clubs competition, as US citizen, because he lives and stays in US as US citizen, not as Cambodian citizen. And, somebody put his time, from that competition as National Record in Wikipedia! And put there info, that he swam for Cambodian National Team! He swam for his American swimming club, as American citizen, so it cannot, put info that he swam for Cambodian National team, and cannot put info, that he made new record for Cambodia, because he was enrolled, into this meet, in USA, with his US ID or US passport, not with Cambodian ID or Cambodian passport. So, you see - there are many factors, should be taken into account, to create really credible database, of the National Records
